Aloft — Glider Assistant App for MSFS 2020 & 2024
Aloft is a lightweight companion for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024). It works with any aircraft, with additional features for gliders, and exclusive features for Diana 2 owners. Designed to be quick and practical during normal flying — clear menu sections, direct controls, and a window you can keep visible over the simulator.
The app is actively developed — more features are planned and on the way.
✈ General Features
- Always on Top — keeps the app above other windows; ideal for monitoring the live map while flying on a 4K or multi-monitor setup
- Draggable window — reposition from any area without an interactive control
⚙️ Settings
- Community Folder — required first-time setup; auto-detect or browse manually
- Close app with sim — app quits when the simulator closes
- Start app with sim — app launches automatically when the simulator starts
- Minimize to tray — keeps the app active in the background when minimized
- Start minimized — launches directly to the system tray
- Remember window position — reopens where you left it, including on secondary monitors
- Confirm deletions — optional prompt before removing items
- App sounds — click and feedback audio on or off
- Show tooltips — hover hints for all controls
- UI Scale — resize the entire interface
- Language — available in 15 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Czech, Finnish, Slovenian, Hebrew, Chinese, Arabic, and Hindi
❤️ Aircraft Health
- Live condition monitoring panel — works with any aircraft
- Values update in real time during climb, manoeuvring, and landing
- Also available inside the Diana 2 tablet
- Oxygen system monitoring
🚦 Taxi Mode
- Drive your aircraft on the ground with precise speed control — tap Forward or Reverse to add or subtract 1 kt at a time (up to 20 kt in either direction)
- Speed displayed in a large cockpit-style readout; steer with your rudder pedals
- Stop instantly with the Stop button — disengages immediately
🛫 Tow Plane
- Call a tow plane from any location on the map
- Choose from preset AI flight plans or record your own custom tow path
- Quick Glide — set your desired altitude in feet and spawn immediately at your current position, no waiting for a tow
🎥 Cameras
⚠️ Work in Progress — functional now and will be significantly expanded with more controls and options in future updates.
- Create, save, and reuse camera presets and animated keyframe sequences
- Tri-view editor — drag camera sources and targets freely on a top-down layout
- Dolly slider — moves camera and target together
- Zoom slider — adjusts lens only; camera and target stay in place
- Fine Tune mode — precise sub-pixel placement
- Single preset and animated keyframe sequences with variable playback speed (x1–x5)
🗺️ Live Map
Map Overlays
- Toggle independently: map type (street/terrain/satellite), traffic, airports, airport labels, weather, and wind
- Wind overlay — shows live wind direction and strength across the map at a glance; arrows indicate direction, colour intensity indicates speed
- AI Traffic — toggle on to see all AI aircraft currently active in the simulator on the map, including their type and heading
- Simulated Thermals — Aloft can inject simulated thermal activity into the simulator. Thermals appear on the Live Map so you can plan your soaring route before or during flight
Airport Search
- Search by airport name or ICAO code
- Sort alphabetically (ABC) or by nearest to current position (DIST)
- Target line preview when browsing airports in the list
Teleport
- Drag the red crosshair to any map location and press Teleport to spawn there
- Default spawn altitude is 3,000 ft (adjustable)
- Reset Position re-centres the map on your aircraft and keeps it tracked until you pan
Multiplayer
- Toggle Transmit Multiplayer Data to appear on the shared map and see all other connected pilots
- Set a unique Pilot Name visible to everyone
- Player icons update every second: position, aircraft type, and livery
- Connected Players list sortable by name (ABC) or distance (DIST)
- Direction line and map follow for any pilot in the list
- Player distance colour-coding: Gray (no data yet) · Blue (<5 nm) · Green (5–20 nm) · Red (20–50 nm) · Black (>50 nm)
- Proximity alerts: Proximity (<1 km) · Warning (<500 m) · Critical (collision imminent)
- Right-click any pilot or AI aircraft on the map to request an aerotow hookup
- Cross-platform — MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 pilots share the same private server and spawn as full 3D aircraft inside each other’s simulators simultaneously
- Friends List — add pilots to your Friends List; friends always appear on your map and Connected Players list regardless of distance. Other pilots outside your proximity range are automatically hidden to keep the map uncluttered
2D Livery Icons — Share Your Aircraft on the Map
Every pilot on the multiplayer map is shown as a top-down 2D icon of their actual aircraft and livery. Diana 2 and default MSFS aircraft have icons built in. For any other aircraft or custom livery, use the built-in Icon Creation tool to create and share your own — automatically uploaded and visible to all connected pilots in real time.
📋 Profiles & Flight Logs
Pilot Profiles
- 8 fully renameable profile slots
- Each profile stores: flight logs, favourite locations, and task plans. Diana 2 owners also store a saved LX9050 instrument layout per profile (V80 layout saving planned)
- Diana 2: switching profiles prompts you to load the LX9050 layout saved under that profile — accept or skip
Flight Logs
- Automatic recording — every flight from takeoff to landing logged automatically
- Manual recording with pause and resume support
- Search bar and sortable category tabs
- B21 Task Planner integration — open any flight log directly in the B21 browser-based task planner
- Built-in Flight Reviewer — replay any recorded flight with forward and reverse playback, variable speed, and a scrub timeline
- Spawn up to 10 3D aircraft in the simulator to replay the flight — any aircraft type, any combination
- 3 formation modes — control how the 10 spawned aircraft are arranged relative to each other
- Teleport to the replay spawn point mid-flight
Favourite Locations
- Bookmark any position mid-flight and teleport back to it at any time
Task Plans
- Glider task plans define route, turnpoints, and finish — enabling real-time calculations: remaining distance, required glide ratio, and speed-to-fly
- Create tasks in B21 Task Planner or directly on the Diana 2 LX9050 in-sim flight computer — tasks sync automatically to the Live Map
- Import .TSK files or save tasks from the LX9050; Diana 2 owners can push saved tasks back to the instrument in one click
📖 Built-in Manuals
All product manuals are available directly inside the app — no external browser or PDF needed.
💠 Diana 2 Exclusive Features
These features require the Diana 2 glider to be installed.
- Bug Contamination — insect accumulation progressively degrades aerodynamic surfaces during flight. Onboard cleaners restore performance. Visible in real time in the Aircraft Health panel.
- Twitch Integration — import your subscribed Twitch channels into Aloft; they appear in the app and directly inside the Diana 2 tablet (especially useful in VR).
